The standard sends 140 volunteers to ChristieCare for a “day of caring”
ChristieCare welcomed about 140 employees from The Standard on August 11th, 2006 to its Marylhurst campus to spend the day helping with various projects such as yard work, painting and organizing a library for children.
The total value of The Standard’s volunteer service to ChristieCare exceeded $15,000, according to Independent Sector, a national forum that has established the monetary value of volunteer work at $18.05 per hour. This project comes on the heels of a $50,000 grant to ChristieCare in May from The Standard employees as part of the company’s 100-year anniversary celebration.
“As a nonprofit organization, we rely heavily volunteer support, and no group or organization has been more generous with their time than the employees of The Standard.” said Lynne Saxton, executive director of ChristieCare.
Founded in 1906 as Oregon Life Insurance Company, The Standard is celebrating 100 years of helping people achieve financial security. During The Standard’s year-long anniversary celebration which honors its founder Leo Samuel’s commitment to the community, the company will partner with nonprofits to provide at least 10,000 hours of volunteer service. To date 89 nonprofits across the country have received donations and over 5,400 hours of volunteer service from The Standard’s employees. More than 700 employees have volunteered.
The ChristieCare is nearing its 150th anniversary of serving children and families in crisis. Founded in 1859, ChristieCare today provides outcome-driven, evidence based services ranging from intensive secure treatment for severely troubled children to educational and vocational programs that help youth succeed in their homes, schools and communities.
