Truffles and Love Potions: Chocolate Ball 2008 a Success!

On February 2nd, the night of the Chocolate Ball, Event Chair Elaine Franklin declared the evening a success as she announced ChristieCare had exceeded its goal by raising over $500,000.

The chocolate experience began the moment guests arrived at the Governor Hotel for the Chocolate Ball, as they were greeted with the decadent samples of nine of Portland’s finest chocolatiers. From truffles to Love Potions, the variety was the talk of the room. Featured drinks for the evening included chocolate martinis, Rogue Chocolate Stout, and Spanish Coffees. The menu, created by Executive Chef Brian Light, included smoked salmon and sturgeon lox on chocolate blinis, bittersweet chocolate salad with petite greens, and a smoked beef tenderloin crusted with cocoa powder spices.

Guests were given the opportunity to further support ChristieCare by purchasing the signature blue Tiffany & Co. jewelry box that contained a raffle ticket. The raffle’s grand prize, generously donated by Tiffany’s, was an 18K white gold diamond earrings and necklace set. Over $6,000 was raised by the raffle.

The 4th Annual “Best Chocolate Dessert in Portland” contest was held in the Renaissance Room. This year’s winners were Wildwood Restaurant and Bar’s chocolate hazelnut mousse for “best chilled/frozen dessert;” KeKau’s molded bonbon for “best confection;” and Food in Bloom’s Manjari chocolate mousse torte for “best pastry.” Following dessert, dancing commenced to the music of the Portland band, 5 Guys Named Moe.
