The Christie School Unveils New Name, Organizational Vision
On September 19th, 2006 The Christie School – an organization dedicated to serving Oregon’s children and families since 1859 – became ChristieCare.
Established as an orphanage, then shifting focus to psychiatric residential treatment for children, ChristieCare today provides best practice mental health solutions in its four Oregon locations.
ChristieCare’s goal to reach more children and families led to a reinvention of the organization beyond traditional residential treatment. Based on its unparalleled experience, resources and vision in Oregon, ChristieCare now offers a 21st century continuum of mental health services that enables children to recover and lead resilient, productive lives by integrating family and community supports, education and work skills.
Recent additions to its array of services include the Multnomah County Children’s Receiving Center in Portland, Heron Creek Academy Therapeutic School in Clackamas, Therapeutic Foster Care in Lincoln County, In-Home Services in seven Oregon counties and a real-time information management system that measures outcomes and tracks results in all programs and locations. ChristieCare has also partnered with Oregon Health & Science University in offering clinical rotations for psychiatric fellows in ChristieCare programs, and Options Counseling Services of Oregon, Inc. to deliver In-Home Services.
While ChristieCare expands its community programs, it will continue to serve Oregon’s children who require the highest quality of intensive psychiatric residential treatment. The Christie School name will be retained and used in reference to the residential services under the ChristieCare umbrella.
All programs and services are guided by ChristieCare’s Re-Education (Re-ED) treatment philosophy, a dynamic approach centered on helping troubled children build competence and achieve success, rather than focusing on their problems. Through Re-ED ChristieCare builds collaborative, supportive relationships with families and help creates healthier, more stable environments for them. ChristieCare is Oregon’s only member of the American Re-Education Association.
