ChristieCare Cup Pro Am Golf Classic Enjoys Another Record Breaking Year

CC Cup 08

The 2008 ChristieCare Cup Pro-Am Golf Classic, presented by West Coast Bank, once again proved why it’s Oregon top charity golf tournament with a fourth consecutive year of record breaking results.

This year’s field almost doubled in size to 44 teams, which helped raise an unprecedented $160,000 for ChristieCare’s mental health programs serving children and families in Oregon. Festivities included a dinner and auction on Sept. 7th at the Multnomah Athletic Club, featuring keynote speaker and PGA touring professional Brian Henninger, as well as a spectacular lineup of golf-themed auction packages. Sponsors, teams and Oregon’s top PGA professionals then took to Columbia Edgewater’s immaculate 18-hole layout on Sept. 8th for highly competitive tournament play.

The Fjord Ltd. team of John Dversdal, Mark Hemmingson, Patrick Palmer and PGA Professional Scott Rath of Tualatin Country Club finished atop the tournament standings with an outstanding 128, based on the two best ball scoring format. Scott Leritz of Royal Oaks Country Club (Vancouver, Washington) was the top-shooting professional in the field at 67, followed just one stroke back by Rath and Chris Mitchell of Portland Golf Club.

The ChristieCare Cup is the championship event of the Oregon Professional Golfers Association (OPGA) Pro Am Series, which takes place February through September on golf courses throughout the state. The OPGA raised almost $30,000 for ChristieCare children at the 30 tournaments of the Series.

In the November 7, 2008 edition of the Portland Business Journal, a recognition advertisement appeared acknowledging sponsors and contributors to this year’s tournament.
